Speaking with the ancestors, by blood and by choice and leaving an offering of essential oil fills me with reverence. It’s the quiet of the moment. It’s beyond religion for me and just spiritual hygiene at this point like brushing my teeth. No sky father will punish me if I don’t do it. I just feel out of sorts and less connected without that self care.

I love the term spiritual hygiene! Wow.

Stepping outside first thing in the morning, whatever the weather, to greet the day is my non-religious, sacred ritual.

You speak so clearly about these matters, Liz. Inspiration. I sound a small brass bowl from Nepal every night before I turn the lights and the world off. Part of my ritual of prayer. It has opened me and led me to recognize so many other small rituals in my life.

I've always felt star gazing and contemplating the enormity and vastness of the cosmos is a non-religious ritual for me. It feels sacred because it makes me feel, at once, connected to my presence in this tiny corner of existence, and yet connected to the vastness of creation.
